When you wish upon a thousand islands | October 28, 2024

Hello reader,

Just off the coast of North Jakarta lie the Thousand Islands, which, despite rising popularity among local tourists, are still mostly untouched by major resorts and attractions.

Gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil has a vision to build a Disneyland-like attraction on one of the regency’s islands, as he said in last night’s gubernatorial debate. The problem is, he said something similar when he campaigned for governor of West Java some years ago, and he was called out for never following through with that vision.

Did he manage to wriggle himself out of that corner? Read on and find out.

Whoever becomes Jakarta governor, here’s to a happily ever after in the city/province. The idea of a Disneyland is certainly more appealing than the city sinking.
