Happy Halloween! Before you go off celebrating, have I got a treat for you in the form of today’s Nusantara Notes.

Nothing too scary in this one. Headline item: a debate is raging over whether or not former president Soeharto should be named a national hero. Despite well-documented human rights abuses, there are of course those who look back towards the New Order era with rose-tinted glasses.

Elsewhere: beware extreme weather in the Greater Jakarta Area, and hundreds more fall victim to MBG.
