Surprise reshuffle! | September 8, 2025

Hello reader,

While a cabinet reshuffle for an under pressure President Prabowo has been on the cards for a while, few would have expected it to happen today. Some irregularities point to this being a rushed decision, as we’ll cover below.

Among those shuffled out is Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, whose departure more than likely prompted a steep slide in the Jakarta Composite Index. Then there’s Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, who was conspicuously absent during last week’s nationwide unrest.
