Hello reader,

At the risk of showing my age, I remember when the rupiah plunged to a then-historic low in 1998 and chaos ensued. It’s not exactly apple to apple, but the currency yesterday fell to its all time low, yet we’re still somewhat chill about it.

The government will continue to tell us that the country’s macroeconomic indicators are still sound, and they’re probably right for the most part. But this sense of security likely won’t last if they don’t proactively try to right this wobbling ship. More on that in today’s edition of Nusantara Notes.
