In some Indonesian traditions, one’s name contains the hopes and dreams for that person. Perhaps, then, Mulyono wouldn’t have prospered the way he did if he hadn’t had his name changed to Joko Widodo.

The president overcame a frail childhood to become arguably the greatest political force in Indonesia today. His influence is so great that there have been assertions that he is still able to intervene with his old political party, PDI-P, to stop a certain politician’s rise.
