Islamic organization takes up government's mining offer

Hello reader,

Major religious organizations shape the way of life in Indonesia in more ways than most other groups do. They also have a firm grip on politics, with our current vice president arguably being the best embodiment of that.

That said, few would have imagined that religious organizations would be able to manage mining operations, as is now permitted by the government. In today’s highlight, we look at Muhammadiyah joining the ranks and the heavy criticism the move has spawned.
