Police kill civilian amid unrest

Hello reader,

These are dark days for Indonesia.

Anger towards lawmakers over the past few weeks is now largely redirected towards the police, who killed a young man named Affan Kurniawan during yesterday’s protests in Jakarta.

Affan, who was a breadwinner for his modest family, and who, by all accounts, was a beautiful soul, did not even take part in the protests when police brutally ended his life.

The fallout from this is going to be huge. Let’s hope Affan’s death will not go in vain.

Rest in peace, Affan.
