Gov't bans AI service over deepfake concerns

Hello reader,

Grok was warned, and now the government has temporarily restricted access to X’s AI service amid concerns about creation and editing of non-consensual sexual images. Indonesia is reportedly the first country to do so, with others, including Malaysia, following suit.

As Grok is integrated into X, it’s not yet clear how the government is implementing this restriction with the social media platform still accessible. I, for one, am still able to access Grok within X — not that I’ve ever had any need for it. At any rate, one hopes that Grok gets the safeguards it desperately needs.

More on this just below. Plus: flooding comes to Jakarta (again), Prabowo sets sights on eradicating extreme poverty, and an actress opens up about being a grooming victim.

Cheers,

Andra
