Vice governor candidate says women shouldn't become governor

Hello reader,

Indonesia has had a female president and a female House speaker (both of whom happen to be mother and daughter), and now one politician is drawing the line on governor?

Dimyati Natakusumah, who is running for vice governor in Andra Soni’s (no relation, I swear) ticket in Banten, controversially suggested that the role of governor is too heavy for a woman. The other ticket in the race, of course, is led by experienced politician Airin Rahmi Diany, who is arguably one of the most renowned politicians in the country—female or otherwise.

How did Airin react? Read on to find out.

Cheers,

Andra
