Dear reader,

Here’s to another work week. A couple more of these until Independence Day celebrations. Tarik tambang (tug of war), anyone?

Over in Jakarta, a huge political battle is on the cards after former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has practically been nominated by a super coalition of parties to run for governor in Jakarta. This coalition, led by President-elect Prabowo Subianto, is so huge that it leaves little room for any meaningful opposition.

So will anyone in their right mind challenge Ridwan? Is Anies Baswedan the only one who stands a chance, and can he work with old foes to topple the giant?

Exciting stuff indeed for fans of political drama. More on that below.
