Gov't critic accuses Jokowi of ordering hit on his son

Hello reader,

You may remember Amien Rais as a key figure in Indonesia’s democratic reforms. But that was decades ago. These days, he’s better known as a vocal government critic, whose every condemnation feels so very personal.

It doesn’t get more personal than this: Amien has come out to accuse former President Joko Widodo of orchestrating a car crash that nearly claimed his son’s life in 2020. Beyond Amien’s hunch, there doesn’t seem to be any proof supporting the claim, but one imagines that Jokowi would not ignore such a serious accusation.

July is off to a scorching start.
